Back in January, it was reported that indie directing duo, Jay and Mark Duplass (“Jeff, Who Lives At Home”) were working on a half-hour comedy for HBO entitled “Togetherness.” The series details the trials and tribulations of two couples forced to live under the same roof; its humor deriving from the real-life problems within a relationship. News on the series cooled down after that with snippets of casting announcements being the norm. Back in March it was confirmed that Amanda Peet would be playing a lead role next to confirmed stars Melanie Lynskey, and Duplass regular Steve Zissis.
Cut to today and it appears that HBO likes what they’ve seen, because the show has received a series order. And Mark Duplass himself takes on the role of Brett, a “sweet yet odd guy with a seemingly picture-perfect life.” With past roles in “Zero Dark Thirty” and a lead in “Safety Not Guaranteed,” Duplass’ CV keeps getting more and more impressive.
Odds are “Togetherness” will premiere sometime next year, but it’s another win for the HBO network which continues to have a little something for everyone in their television roster, including the divisive “Girls,” the upcoming Jonathan Groff drama “Getting On” and Stephen Merchant’s upcoming “Hello Ladies.” Not to mention their regular roster of “Boardwalk Empire,” “Game Of Thrones,” “The Newsroom,” “True Blood“…you get the idea….
