‘How To Shoot A Ghost’ Trailer: Charlie Kaufman Teams With Jessie Buckley For New Short

Charlie Kaufman‘s career is one of beauty and heartbreak. For every film he manages to make, it seems a half dozen more fall by the wayside. You could probably fill a decently sized book — maybe one the size of “Antkind” — with the stories of films Kaufman has flirted with only to collapse for one reason or another. Thankfully, there’s some good news on the horizon.

Amid all the auteurs palling around at the Venice Film Festival, less notice has been given to Kaufman, who is launching a new short, “How To Shoot A Ghost,” in an Out of Competition slot. Reuniting with his “I’m Thinking Of Ending Things” star Jessie Buckley, the story follows two newly dead people as they connect in Athens. Here’s the official synopsis:

Two newly dead young people meet in the streets of Athens, amid the pulsing cityscape and the ghosts of history. One a translator, the other a photographer, they were outsiders in life; in death, they struggle with the residue of their longings and mistakes. They wander the city together, finding consolation in the difficult beauty of existence and its aftermath.

Kanopy produced the 27-minute short in a rather novel approach and will distribute it. So, you’ll need a library card to watch. For now, check out the trailer below.
