James Wan Probably Won’t Come Back For 'The Conjuring 3'

Director James Wan is a busy guy. After successfully launching the franchises for “Saw,” “Insidious,” and most recently, “The Conjuring,” the director is in high demand. After massive success directing “Furious 7” ($1.5 billion worldwide), Wan came back to helm “The Conjuring 2,” but it seems as if that film might be his last at the helm of the series.

Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, Wan said “Another ‘Conjuring’? Jeez, I love the world, I love Patrick [Wilson] and Vera [Farmiga], and I have such a great relationship with New Line and Warner Bros., so the idea of coming back to that family is not a bad thing. I wouldn’t turn anything down, I think. But, you did hit it on the head, I am quite busy potentially for the next couple of years. So, who knows if they’ll actually wait for me to come back and do another one?”

If New Line and Warner Bros. want Wan back for a potential “The Conjuring 3,” they’re going to have wait some time. His next picture is the WB/DC superhero film “Aquaman.” After that, he’s committed to directing an adaptation of the popular anime “Robotech” (though whether that eventually happens, who knows). “Furious 7” proved that Wan is comfortable taking on huge tentpole movies outside of his originally-conceived projects. With his two upcoming films, the director isn’t slowing down and is showing his desire to continue making big budget spectacles instead of the low-budget horror flicks that began his career.

We imagine he’ll stay on board as executive producer, but sorry, horror fans, for now, it’s looking likely that “The Conjuring 2” will be Wan’s horror swan song as a director.
