Jenna Ortega, Barry Keoghan & The Weeknd To Star In New Film From Director Trey Edward Shults

It appears the acting bug has bitten The Weeknd quite hard. Not only is he co-starring in the upcoming HBO series, “The Idol,” which is set to debut later this year, but apparently, he’s been secretly cooking up his feature film debut with director Trey Edward Shults in an untitled film.

According to Deadline, Trey Edward Shults is set to direct a new film starring Abel “The Weeknd” Tesfaye, Barry Keoghan, and Jenna Ortega. The untitled film is being kept pretty secret, as we don’t even have a clue as to what the plot might be. However, we know that Tesfaye co-wrote the film alongside Shults.

Shults is best known for his previous films, the acclaimed “Waves” and “It Comes at Night.” It’s being reported that Tesfaye and Shults have been working together on this new film for months and have already entered production.

Tesfaye, aka The Weeknd, is a massive pop star, but, as mentioned above, has been trying his hand at acting more recently. It’s unclear how that transition will go for him, as we have yet to see him in “The Idol.” That said, he did show up in a small part in “Uncut Gems,” and that was a perfectly fine performance.

Ortega and Keoghan are much more known to film and TV fans. Ortega is one of the hottest stars right now thanks to the massive success of “Wednesday,” as well as her co-starring role in the most recent “Scream” films. Keoghan has appeared in a number of high-profile projects, including recent appearances in “The Batman” and “Eternals,” as well as his Oscar-nominated role in “The Banshees of Inisherin.”

It’s unclear when or how we might see this new untitled film. But considering it’s already in production, you have to assume it’s something we’ll see either by the end of this year or early 2024.
