Jim Carrey Says He Doesn't Play The Awards Season "Game" & Calls Campaigning For Nominations A "Gigantic Clusterf--k"

Jim Carrey is no stranger to award show accolades. Despite his comic roots, dating back to his famous run on “In Living Color” back in the ‘80s, the actor has firmly cemented himself as one of the more interesting and talented folks working in Hollywood. And because of that talent, Carrey has landed himself seven Golden Globe nominations (including 2 wins) and a slew of other awards. But when you hear the actor talk about awards, it would appear that Carrey couldn’t care less about the trophies.

Speaking to Vanity Fair, Carrey talked quite a bit about one of his breakthrough roles, in Michel Gondry’sEternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind.” And even though that film earned two Oscar nominations (and one win), Carrey wasn’t honored at all by the Academy for his performance. And according to the actor, it’s probably because he just doesn’t like playing the campaign game.

“There’s a lot of monkey business that goes on around awards,” Carrey said.

He referred to the whole awards ceremony situation as a “gigantic clusterfuck…if you don’t show up to a certain dinner, you screw your chances and all those things. I’ve never been real good at playing that game.”

Carrey added, “The only time I’ve ever felt a twinge of something about an award or not getting nominated is whenever people tell me I should be. Like, really? Should I be disgruntled? I had a wonderful time and I met a bunch of people…isn’t that enough?”

Despite his multiple Golden Globe wins for Best Actor, Carrey has surprisingly never been honored with even an Oscar nomination. However, this year, the actor has a strong shot to earn his first Emmy nomination for acting, courtesy of his latest collaboration with Gondry, the Showtime series “Kidding.”
