Keanu Reeves Wants Tilda Swinton For 'John Wick 3'

It’s still kind of weird that “John Wick” is as good as it is. From the premise alone, it seemed like the kind of direct-to-VOD action movie that a John Travolta or a Bruce Willis might star in (co-starring 50 Cent, probably), and Keanu Reeves’ star had not been glittering of late. But the first film was a tremendous surprise: a thrilling, beautiful looking, characterful, textured action-thriller that might have featured the Keanu-est performance of all time.

The first film was enough of a sleeper to lead to a sequel, and this year’s “John Wick: Chapter Two” was a big hit, and, remarkably, even improved on the quality of the original, becoming a borderline arthouse, cinephile-adored fantasia of violence. So a third film is in the works, with Lionsgate ballsily setting it for a summer release date in 2019. And Keanu Reeves has given his thumbs up for a casting suggestion that would reunite him with a former co-star.

People caught up with the actor recently and suggested that Swinton, who he acted with in “Constantine” and “Thumbsucker” over a decade ago, would be a good fit for a third “John Wick” movie. And Reeves heartily agreed. “You know, I had the chance to work with her — I was in two films with her but had the chance to work with her once — I’m onboard with that. We run into each other once in a while socially out there in the world. She’s a remarkable person and actress, so I’m all aboard with that!”

Now, on the one hand, this is a fairly obviously manufactured story by People, and there’s no suggestion that a role is being written for Swinton in the new film, or that she would have any interest in doing the movie if she was offered a part. On the other hand, if you have a chance to put the combination of Tilda Swinton and John Wick into the universe in the hope that it might lead to something, you should take that chance, so here we are. After all, the power of wishful thinking got Helen Mirren into a “Fast & Furious” movie.

With or without Tilda, “John Wick: Chapter Three,” which will again be written by Derek Kolstad and directed by Chad Stahelski, hits theaters on May 17th, 2019.
