'Jojo Rabbit': Taika Waititi Resurrects An Old Meme To Let You Know That Hitler Is Not Happy With His New Film

If you want to sell a movie that’s a satirical comedy about Nazis and World War II, featuring an imaginary version of Adolf Hitler, then you better make sure people know you’re kidding. If there’s any doubt about your motivations as a filmmaker or if the comedy doesn’t work, you’re left with a mess. But thankfully, in the case of “Jojo Rabbit,” we have the comedic mind of Taika Waititi that’s here to use any means necessary to make sure you know that his film is a silly comedy and not some grand WWII epic.

And to help matters even more, Waititi and the marketing folks behind “Jojo Rabbit” have decided to use an old, but still very funny, meme featuring Hitler reacting to the news that a “Polynesian Jew” was directing a comedy about him. As you might expect, if you’re familiar with the meme, Hitler does not take the news very well.

“Jojo Rabbit” is a film that tells the story of a young boy named Jojo that gets picked on by the other Nazi Youth kids and finds solace with his imaginary friend version of Hitler. The film is written and directed by Waititi, who keeps the same silly, but also smart, humor alive and well in his latest film. “Jojo Rabbit” is expected to make the festival rounds in August and September before Fox Searchlight releases the film in theaters later in October.

The new meme is absolutely hilarious and gives you the exact type of tone you can expect from the upcoming film. And if nothing else, apparently we learned that Hitler was also a fan of “Thor: Ragnarok.” Go figure!

“Jojo Rabbit” will hit theaters on October 18.
