Jon Tenney To Father 'Green Lantern'; Entire Suit Reportedly To Be CGI

Jon Tenney (“The Closer”) is set to play Martin H. Jordan, the Green Lantern’s dad, “when he is a young boy, like, 11.” In the comics (and possibly a spoiler for the movie), Hal wants to be a test pilot just like his father. Martin dies in front of his son’s eyes during a failed test, which derails Hal’s passion for flying temporarily.

To prevent script leaks (apparently the version that is making the rounds is an old draft), the re-written version is being released to the actors in different sections, and, for what it’s worth, what Tenney has received so far is “amazing” (but really, what else is he going to say?).

In other silly news, /Film reports that the Green Lantern’s suit will be entirely CGI, and that Reynolds is running around set wearing a motion tracking suit. The report argues that this will make him stand apart, make the suit look appropriately alien, and allow the character to go in & out of suit quickly mid-scene like he is supposed to. Award-winning costume designer Ngila Dickson, who has done many films including “The Lord of the Rings” and “The Illusionist,” was asked to come up with something vastly different than what has been worn in most super hero movies and the result is something that has apparently been given the thumbs up from DC Comics’ Chief Creative Officer Geoff Johns.

In short, for all the nerds hanging around the set trying to catch Ryan Reynolds in a green suit, you can go home now. Not gonna happen. We probably won’t get our first real look at the finished result until some time deep into post-production, so we’re guessing not until early 2011. That said, we wouldn’t be surprised if a teaser trailer of sorts hits around Christmas.
