Got a Tip?

Jonny Greenwood Will Score Paul Thomas Anderson’s ‘Inherent Vice’

Inherent Vice Paul Thomas Anderson Jonny Greenwood

For reasons that should be obvious, “Inherent Vice” is our Most Anticipated Film Of 2014. And now, there’s one more reason to get excited.

Film Music Reporter reveals that Paul Thomas Anderson has once again rung up Radiohead guitarist Jonny Greenwood, with the musician set to score the Thomas Pynchon adaptation. It will mark their third straight pairing together with Greenwood providing memorable work for both 2007’s “There Will Be Blood” and 2012’s “The Master,” but we’re really curious what he’ll do here. While the aforementioned films were intense personal dramas, “Inherent Vice” has largely been described as something much lighter (perhaps a movie we would’ve seen more fitting for PTA’ s previous go-to composer Jon Brion). Either way, we’re anxious to hear what he comes up with.

Featuring an insanely great cast that includes Joaquin Phoenix, Owen Wilson, Katherine Waterston, Martin Short, Reese Witherspoon, Jena Malone, Benicio del Toro, Joanna Newsom and more, there is no release date yet for “Inherent Vice,” but a major film festival premiere is likely. In other Greenwood news, Pitchfork recently revealed he’ll be doing a split release with The National‘s Bryce Dessner of classic music. The latter will be contributing “St. Carolyn By The Sea,” when Greenwood re-releasing his “There Will Be Blood” suite. The disc drops on March 3rd. Tracklist and artwork below.
