'The Legion' Trailer: Mickey Rourke Stars In A Film That Mixes '1917' With Roman Soldiers

What do you get when you cross “Gladiator” with “1917?” Well, on paper, you might get something like the new film, “The Legion.”

As seen in the trailer for “The Legion,” the film follows the story of a Roman soldier that is entrusted with a message that he must deliver before time runs out. However, delivering the message is easier said than done, as he must cross icy terrain, deserts, and mountains, as he battles his way to his destination. Oh yeah, and he runs into a one-eyed man that looks a lot like the bad guy from “Iron Man 2,” along with a woman that looks a lot like the girl from “Crank 2.” It’s crazy times, folks.

The film stars Lee Partridge, Mickey Rourke, and Bai Ling. “The Legion” is directed by José Magán, with a script by Pedro Santamaría and Carmen Ballesteros. The new film marks the directorial debut for Magán, who previously worked as a producer on films such as “The Malevolent” and “Cold Skin.”

“The Legion” is set to hit select theaters on May 8 (maybe), as well as VOD.

Here’s the synopsis:

Mickey Rourke and Bai Ling star in this epic tale of courage and heroism in a time of war. During the invasion of Parthia, two Roman legions have been brought to a standstill in the snowy mountains of Armenia, leaving them slowly dying in the freezing cold. The rest of the Roman army is a two weeks’ march away, and the region swarms with Parthian patrols. Their only hope for survival is Noreno, a half-Roman soldier, who is entrusted with the impossible mission of crossing the deadly terrain to seek help for his men and turn the tide of the battle.
