It was only a month ago that Leonardo DiCaprio made headlines when he announced that he was taking "a long, long break" from acting to focus on his environmental activism, but that doesn't mean he's keeping his feet firmly out of Hollywood. The actor also has his ever-busy production shingle Appian Way (which, in addition to vehicles for the actor, has been behind non-DiCaprio-starring movies ranging from "Ides Of March" to "Red Riding Hood") and now he's got a new project brewing, which he'll produce and possibly take the lead in.
Deadline reports that Warner Bros. have snapped up the rights to Michael Armour's upcoming novel "The Road Home," with "Crazy Heart" director Scott Cooper to helm, write and co-produce the movie. The film will tell the story of Creek, a rancher in Depression era California, scarred by the war, who is tasked with investigating the murder of a local man when the police sweep it under the rug. So yeah, sounds like gritty stuff, and it will be the second collaboration for DiCaprio and Cooper, as the actor is a producer on the upcoming "Out Of The Furnace." But all that said, there is still a long road ahead for this one.
Both DiCaprio and Cooper tend to sign up for lots of stuff, and have a ton on their plates. Even in a hiatus mode, DiCaprio has been linked to "Live By Night," "Devil In The White City" and Alejandro González Iñárritu's "The Revenant." And even though Cooper dropped "The Man In The Rockefeller Suit" with Walter Salles taking over, potential gigs include "Lie Down In Darkness" with Kristen Stewart, former Noah Baumbach project "The Emperor's Children" and a remake of "Carancho." So, we'll see….
But to tide you over, DiCaprio has "The Great Gatsby" coming this summer, and Cooper should be delivering "Out Of The Furnace" sometime this year.
