Leslye Headland’s ‘Star Wars’ Series Revealed To Be The High Republic-Set 'The Acolyte'

For most of the rumored and confirmed “Star Wars” live-action series coming to Disney+, there has always been a clear focus. There is the “Obi-Wan” show, “Cassian Andor,” and perhaps the “Ahsoka Tano” series. But when it was announced that Leslye Headland was going to work on a show, we weren’t given any sort of direction for where it might land other than the fact that it was likely going to be female-centric. Well, now we have a much better idea.

In today’s Disney investors call, it was announced that Leslye Headland’s upcoming series is called “The Acolyte.” “The Acolyte” is a mystery-thriller that will take viewers into a galaxy of shadowy secrets and emerging dark-side powers in the final days of the High Republic era. Headland is probably best known for her most recent TV series, “Russian Doll,” which was a hit for Netflix and is expected to have a Season 2 soon.

Previously, when discussing the project, Headland said that the “Star Wars” series is her “dream project.” However, she was always mum on the details. In the most recent interview where she discussed the series, she said, “I would say it’s in a pocket of the universe and a pocket of the timeline that we don’t know much about. That’s what I can say.”

She added, “Just because my show is technically, yes, ‘female-centric’, meaning it centers around a female protagonist, I don’t think that necessarily excludes men from that space. I relate to male characters all the time. I root for Mando. I root for Luke… An inclusive space means an inclusive space. But at the same time, I think that just because something has a female protagonist doesn’t necessarily mean it’s only for women.”

Of course, there was no official release date given for Headland’s “Star Wars” series. However, now that we have more information, fans can further speculate about what the upcoming Disney+ show might have up its sleeve. Here’s the official announcement:
