Lone Scherfig Tackling Rom-Com 'One Day'; Fincher's 'Social Network' Coming October 2010

— For all the deserved praise for the film’s performances, “An Education” is an impeccably directed movie, and it’s good to see helmer Lone Scherfig lining up her next project. She’ll direct “One Day,” a romantic comedy based on the novel by David Nicholls, which follows Dexter and Emma, who meet during their graduation in 1988, and meet one day every year for the next 20 years. Nicholls was behind both the source material and the script for the underrated James McAvoy rom-com “Starter for Ten,” so we hope that this’ll prove to be at least as good, particularly with Scherfig at the helm.

Coming Soon reports that David Fincher’s “The Social Network” has set a release date – October 15th, 2010, when it’ll go head-to-head with the Dwayne Johnson/Billy Bob Thornton actioner “Faster.” Is it any surprise which one we’ll be seeing?…

— Kate Bosworth will star in “Lost Girls and Love Hotels,” a drama about an American woman in a sex-and-drug fuelled existence in Tokyo, who becomes involved in the case of a missing Western girl. Jean-Marc Vallee, the director of “C.R.A.Z.Y.” and the imminent Emily Blunt starrer “The Young Victoria” will direct. Sounds interesting, although Bosworth hasn’t yet proved that she’s up to a strong dramatic leading role like this, but then, neither had Anne Hathaway before “Rachel Getting Married”

— Overture Films has picked up the rights to the thriller “Stone,” and will release the film next year. The thriller, from director John Curran (“The Painted Veil”), is about a convicted arsonist (Edward Norton), who uses his beautiful wife (Milla Jovovich) to manipulate his parole officer (Robert De Niro). Could be good, but last time De Niro and Norton paired up, we got “The Score,” so we won’t hold our breath.

— The trailer for documentary “Tales From The Script,” which interviews over 50 top screenwriters about their life and work, has premiered ahead of its theatrical release on March 12 via First Run Features. The film is accompanied by a book, which is published on January 26. Probably a little too inside baseball for most people, but we’ll eat this shit up.
