Some directorial partners, like Joel and Ethan Coen for example, seem inseparable. For others, though, it’s only a matter of time before they start pursuing projects individually – that’s something we saw evidenced just last month when Allen Hughes went solo to direct “Broken City.”
And it looks like Mark Neveldine and Brian Taylor can safely be put into the "separable" category, with Neveldine set to go solo with a project of his very own following on from the announcement last year that Taylor would be adapting “Twisted Metal” for Sony. He’ll direct “The Vatican Tapes” for Lakeshore, who are putting the project back into development following some refinancing. “Man on Wire” director James Marsh was attached to the project back in 2009, at which point it was said to be about the events that occur when a tape featuring a botched exorcism get leaked from the Vatican. It will be interesting to see what Neveldine brings to what sounds like very rote subject matter, but surely it has to be better than “Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance,” right?
Diego Luna, meanwhile, is apparently busy developing his third feature film, “Mr. Pig.” We’ve actually still only seen one Diego Luna-directed feature, “Abel,” but that’s because he’s going to be jumping straight from his second to his third. “Chavez” is still in post-production, but Luna plans to get principal photography on "Mr. Pig" underway at some point next month. There are no other details on the project at the moment, but what we do know is that Luna must be an incredibly busy man. He’ll be seen later this year alongside Matt Damon in Neill Blomkamp’s “Elysium,” and he’s also working with Gael Garcia Bernal to shoot a couple of short films for whisky brand Chivas (watch Luna's short here).
