Mark Wahlberg Wants To Make A 'Boardwalk Empire' Movie, Hopes Martin Scorsese Will Direct

Boardwalk Empire Martin ScorseseOf Mark Wahlberg‘s many talents, perhaps his most underrated and undervalued skill is his role as a producer. In particular, he’s fostered quite the relationship with HBO, working with the network on the acclaimed "In Treatment," the gone-too-early "How To Make It In America," and perhaps most notably, the recently concluded "Boardwalk Empire." But is there still more life to be found in the Atlantic City-set series? Well, if a movie can be made out of "Entourage," why not "Boardwalk Empire"? And that seems to be what Wahlberg is thinking.

The actor recently chatted with NJ.com and revealed his desire to bring the boardwalk to the big screen. "My next goal now is to get the movie made and start talking to Martin Scorsese about directing it," the actor stated. Dang. As you likely know, Scorsese directed the pilot of the series, and kept an eye on the show throughout its run as an executive producer. But aside from if this will get made and if Scorsese will direct, the other question is how do you proceed when *spoiler* the main character of Nucky Thompson (Steven Buscemi) gets killed at the end of the series? *end spoiler*. Prequel.

"We can always go back," Wahlberg said. Fair enough.

Thoughts? Do you want to see the origin story of Nucky Thompson (which was already sort of addressed in the final season of "Boardwalk Empire"?). Let us know below. [via Movies.com]
