McG Reportedly Set To Return As Director For Upcoming Sequel To His Netflix Film 'The Babysitter'

Of all the filmmakers that have been absorbed into the Netflix family, few are making the most of it like McG. The man behind the early-‘00s “Charlie’s Angels” films has found a second life as the director of recent Netflix Original films like the recent “Rim of the World” and “The Babysitter.” And the latter of which seems to have struck a chord with the streaming service, as it would appear that McG is back to direct the sequel to his teen horror romp from 2017.

According to the recent Production Weekly (via Bloody Disgusting), McG is set to helm a sequel to his 2017 Netflix film “The Babysitter.” For those that didn’t check out the campy horror film, “The Babysitter” followed the story of a young kid that finds himself the desired victim of a satanic cult, run by his teenage babysitter. Over the course of a night, the young boy must survive the cult and his psychotic, but beautiful, caretaker. There’s no word on what the sequel might look like, but considering the end of the first film, anything is on the table.

The film featured the breakout role for actress Samara Weaving, who would go on to co-star in “SMILF” and will next be seen in the horror film “Ready or Not.” As alluded to, the end of “The Babysitter” hints that maybe Weaving can return in the sequel, but the film could just as easily go with a new kid and a new babysitter, creating a sort of anthology-like series instead of the typical teen slasher franchise. We’ll have to wait and see.

Outside of the first two “Charlie’s Angels” films from over a decade ago, McG is probably best known for films like “We Are Marshall,” “Terminator: Salvation,” and “This Means War.” He is also one of the producers working on the upcoming “True Lies” TV series that is in development.

No release date is mentioned for “The Babysitter” sequel.
