McG Has James Cameron's Blessing & Is Developing A 'True Lies' Series For Disney+

McG is a filmmaker that gained a lot of notoriety in the first part of the 21st century, with his “Charlie’s Angels” films and his “Terminator: Salvation” reboot-quel. Though the latter might not be seen as a shining moment in his career. However, in recent years, the director has found himself finding new success in the realm of streaming, with two Netflix films (“The Babysitter” and the upcoming “Rim of the World”). Next, it appears that he’s continuing that streaming trend with a new “True Lies” series.

Speaking to Collider, McG talked about how he’s currently developing a “True Lies” series for the fledgling Disney+ streaming service.

“Well, right now my new thing for television is I’m doing ‘True Lies’ at Disney+,” revealed McG.

The filmmaker admits that he probably shouldn’t have revealed that, but continued anyway, “So, ‘True Lies’ at Disney+, which is exciting. I’m writing that one, which is very exciting, because I’m so passionate about that story where you think you know your partner but you don’t.”

As for whether or not we could see a cameo from the film’s star Arnold Schwarzenegger, the filmmaker isn’t ruling it out. “There’s talk of that. It’s largely rebooted but there may be a spot there, we’ll see,” he said.

If you aren’t familiar with the 1994 classic, directed by James Cameron, “True Lies” tells the story of a badass secret agent (Schwarzenegger) that struggles to find the right balance between his work and family life, where he has to lie to his wife (Jamie Lee Curtis) about his professional activities. The film earned Curtis a Golden Globe for her performance.

McG revealed that he got the go-ahead from Cameron and said that he’s “just breaking the outline, just getting it going” when discussing the stage the series is in. “I’ll spend the summer writing that,” he elaborated.

Clearly, this isn’t anything that’s going to be ready come November, when Disney+ launches. However, if the Mouse House moves quickly on this, we could be getting a bit of classic James Cameron to go along with the offerings from Marvel, Lucasfilm, Pixar, and the various other remakes.
