…and one week after a shortlist for "Tarzan" that included "Man of Steel" lead Henry Cavill, "Sons of Anarchy" star Charlie Hunnam and Tom Hardy emerged, Warner Bros. and David Yates seem to have found their man.
"True Blood" star Alexander Skarsgård will trade in the fangs for some funny underwear and a vine, as he is now the frontrunner to take his first blockbuster lead role. But as Variety notes, there is no offer and a casting decision hasn't been made so there's still hope for you yet, Cam Gigandet! So should this all come to pass, Skarsgård will play John Clayton III, who gets reassimilated into society only to be asked by Queen Victoria to investigate some strange things going on in the Congo. At his side? Civil War veteran George Washington Williams, a role that Samuel L. Jackson is being eyed for.
Whether or not this frontrunner status actually turns into a deal remains to be seen, but Skarsgård is a known face on the Warner Bros. lot, has his own Viking pic "The Vanguard" developing, and stars in the studio's upcoming thriller "Hidden." There is a bit of danger here in treading into a depiction of the ancient Congo, so we hope there is some sensitivity with this one in that regard. But in short: Skarsgård and Jackson leading a "Tarzan" movie? It's unpredictable for sure. [Variety]
