How many times have we cried for Michael B. Jordan and his deaths on screen? (Too many.) That trend is expected to continue if he joins Denzel Washington‘s “Journal for Jordan.” Oscar-nominated “Mudbound” screenwriter Virgil Williams will adapt the Sony Pictures movie from Dana Cadendy’s heartbreaking memoir about the death of her son’s father, Charles Monroe King.

Cadendy is also a Pulitzer-winning journalist, so audiences can expect more than just her own experience with grief as she investigates what really happened to King. Here’s the book’s description from the publisher:
“In 2005, First Sergeant Charles Monroe King began to write what would become a two-hundred-page journal for his son in case he did not make it home from the war in Iraq. He was killed by a roadside bomb on October 14, 2006. His son, Jordan, was seven months old. A Journal for Jordan is a mother’s letter to her son about the father he lost before he could even speak–including a fiercely honest account of her search for answers about Charles’s death. It is also a father’s advice and prayers for the son he will never know. Finally, this is the story of Dana and Charles together–two seemingly mismatched souls who loved each other deeply and lost each other too soon.”
Jordan is currently in discussions to join the Washington-directed film as its star, but he would be a producer as well, fitting with his goal of becoming a power player off-screen in Hollywood as well as on screen. “Journal for Jordan” is also produced by Washington, Todd Black, Jason Blumenthal, and Steve Tisch.
After a huge 2018 with both “Black Panther” and “Creed II,” Jordan is next confirmed to appear in Destin Daniel Cretton‘s “Just Mercy” with Brie Larson and the Tom Clancy-based film “Without Remorse.”
