Nanni Moretti Named Jury President For 65th Cannes Film Festival

nullWith Sundance just underway, Berlin a couple of weeks off, we're now taking a longer look at to May, when the grand daddy of them all, the Cannes Film Festival, will roll out the red carpet. And it looks like organizers on the Croisette are beginning to put their pieces into position.

The festival has announced that Italian actor and filmmaker Nanni Moretti will be the President of the jury at the 65th Cannes Film Festival. Moretti is no stranger to organizers, having presented six films in the south of France, winning the Palme d'Or in 2001 for what is arguably his best known work, the family drama "The Son's Room." His most recent venture to Cannes was last year, where he premiered his latest film, the dramedy "Habemus Papam."

“The Festival wanted to celebrate its 65th season with a European jury President. High-spirited and marked by his modernity and intelligence, Nanni Moretti’s films are the incarnation of all the best in cinema over the past thirty years. His work is always evolving and continues to carry the promise of film that engages with the world and with our times,” said festival head Thierry Fremaux

This Cannes Film Festival runs from May 16-27.
