Naomie Harris Is In Talks To Play The Villain Shriek In The Upcoming 'Venom 2'

Recently, it was reported that Carnage wouldn’t be the only bad guy stalking Tom Hardy in the upcoming sequel to “Venom.” Shriek, the comic book character that is romantically linked to Woody Harrelson’s Cletus Kasady, aka Carnage, is also supposed to join the hijinks in the next “Spider-Man” spin-off film. And thanks to a new report, we know who might play the villainess.

According to Variety, Naomie Harris is in talks to play Shriek in the upcoming ‘Venom 2,” which is said to be directed by Andy Serkis. The character comes from Marvel Comics lore and is otherwise known by her human name Frances Louise Barrison (or sometimes Sandra Deel, depending on the era). She’s an insanely dangerous criminal that has the ability to manipulate sound to act as a shield and to shoot energy blasts. However, what makes her truly interesting is her ability to psychically encroach on someone’s mind and force them to let our their more violent instincts.

Harris is probably best known for her roles in films in the “Pirates of the Caribbean” and James Bond franchises. However, she’s also been nominated for a Golden Globe, BAFTA, and Academy Award for her role in the Oscar-winning film “Moonlight.” She’ll next be seen in the upcoming crime thriller “Black and Blue.” She has also worked with Serkis on the filmmaker’s directorial debut, the Netflix film “Mowgli.”

We still don’t have an official release date set for “Venom,” but production is said to begin in early 2020, and it’s assumed that one of Sony’s October 2020 release dates is reserved for the sequel. But as far as any confirmation, the studio is mum.

“Venom 2” is the highly-anticipated follow-up to the ‘Spider-Man’ spin-off film from last year, which went on to earn just under $900 million worldwide.
