Nick Nolte Heads To The Galaxy Far, Far Away And Joins 'Star Wars' Series 'The Mandalorian'

So far, the cast for the Disney+ series “The Mandalorian” is pretty surprising. While Pedro Pascal is clearly an actor that is in demand right now, the rest of the actors that have been announced don’t typically fit the “Star Wars” model, so to speak. First, there’s ‘Rocky’ star Carl Weathers. Then you have “Haywire” actress Gina Carano. And now, Nick Nolte. Go figure.

THR is reporting that Nolte is the latest actor to join the upcoming “Star Wars” live-action streaming series. As you might expect, details on his role are still a secret, as is much of the show, but the report does say that Nolte’s role could be unexpected. THR says that many of the actors that are being hired could be, much like in the movie franchise, hidden by extensive prosthetics or CGI. This would also explain why Nolte was announced just now, after production has been going on for weeks. So, it stands to reason that Nolte could either have a fairly minor role, or perhaps lend a voice to a CGI character.

Nolte is probably best known for his roles in classic films like “48 Hours,” “North Dallas Forty,” “Affliction,” and “The Prince of Tides.” He’ll be next seen in the upcoming film “Head Full of Honey.”

As we’ve covered before, “The Mandalorian” is going to be featured on the upcoming streaming service Disney+, which is also going to be the home of more “Star Wars” content, including another live-action series based on Cassian Andor from ‘Rogue One.’ And just as eclectic as the talent in front of the camera, showrunner Jon Favreau has hired a unique group of filmmakers to direct episodes, including Taika Waititi, Bryce Dallas Howard, Dave Filoni, Ricky Famuyiwa, and Deborah Chow.

There’s no release date for the series, but it’s expected to be available when Disney+ launches sometime in the last part of 2019.

Here’s the synopsis for the series:

After the stories of Jango and Boba Fett, another warrior emerges in the Star Wars universe. The Mandalorian is set after the fall of the Empire and before the emergence of the First Order. We follow the travails of a lone gunfighter in the outer reaches of the galaxy far from the authority of the New Republic.
