Olivia Wilde Debuts 'Don't Worry Darling' First Look & Announces Fall 2022 Release Date

It feels like we’ve been talking about Olivia Wilde’s new film, “Don’t Worry Darling,” for years now. Well, that’s because we have. Back in 2019, fresh off the success of her directorial debut, “Booksmart,” Wilde announced her next feature would be a psychological thriller, “Don’t Worry Darling.” And for the past two-plus years, we’ve been waiting to see it on the big screen. And apparently, we have more than a year more to wait before it actually is released.

According to a post on social media, Olivia Wilde shared a first look at “Don’t Worry Darling” and the official release date for the film. For those unaware, “Don’t Worry Darling” stars Florence Pugh alongside Chris Pine, Gemma Chan, Harry Styles, and KiKi Layne. The story follows Pugh’s character, a 1950s housewife who lives in a seemingly utopian community but begins to realize that not everything is as hunky-dory as it appears.

While the first look doesn’t give us a whole lot to work from, it does appear that Wilde is really playing up the ‘50s aesthetic for her feature, showing just how beautiful and colorful that era was. Of course, towards the end of the teaser, there’s a hint of just how terrifying it can be, as well.

Originally, folks were sure that “Don’t Worry Darling” would be a 2021 release, likely coming in the fall around awards season. Of course, the pandemic likely pushed that back, as it has for just about every other feature. Now, the film isn’t going to hit until September 23, 2022, more than a year from now. But given how stacked the next several months will be with high-profile films, it makes sense for New Line Cinema to want to give it some breathing room.
