Oprah Winfrey Joins Ava DuVernay's 'A Wrinkle In Time'

Oprah Winfrey and Ava DuVernay are developing quite the partnership. Winfrey was instrumental in getting DuVernay’s critically acclaimed “Selma” off the ground serving as a producer, and they both have most recently teamed up to bring DuVernay’s TV series “Queen Sugar” to Winfrey’s OWN Network. Now, we can add “A Wrinkle in Time” to their list of collaborations.

According to THR, Oprah is set to join the cast of the fantasy film. She’ll play the character Mrs. Which in the Disney adaptation of the beloved Madeleine L’Engle book. “A Wrinkle in Time” tells the story of a girl who is searching for her missing father, a government scientist, who was working on a mysterious project called a tesseract.

For DuVernay, it marks her first narrative film since “Selma” made her one of Hollywood’s most sought after creators. She was the reported frontrunner for the “Black Panther” gig at Marvel Studios, and while didn’t work out, DuVernay found another project to work on at Disney instead.

“A Wrinkle in Time” is written by “Frozen” scribe Jennifer Lee, but no release date has been set just yet.
