Oscar Winner Jim Broadbent Cast In “Significant Role” For ‘Game Of Thrones’ Season 7

As its endgame slowly but surely approaches, like the Mother of Dragons herself, “Game of Thrones” is throwing no punches in its casting. Entertainment Weekly reports that Oscar and BAFTA winner Jim Broadbent (“Iris,” “Moulin Rouge!,” “Bridget Jones’ Diary“) has been cast in a mystery role, which HBO states will be “significant.”

Now that “Game of Thrones” has outpaced George R. R. Martin’s novels, we are all in the dark as to the identities of new characters in the show. While HBO could be obfuscating the importance of the character, anything is possible at this point in the Great Game (I’m getting a Maester vibe). Hopefully Broadbent will be a better sport about “Game of Thrones” than Ian McShane.

Either way, fans will have to wait a while before we get the next truncated season, as Season 7 will have a later 2017 premiere date, to properly utilize the colder weather in order to usher in Westeros’ long awaited winter. Any theories on who Broadbent might be playing? Hit up the comments section and let us know.
