In this chapter we spoke to Boston filmmaker and programmer Jared Vincenti! After getting his MFA in Film Studies, Vincenti went on to make his first feature, the microbudget “Day of Youth.” It’s a heartfelt comedy with a killer soundtrack provided by various Boston-dwelling bands. Synopsis below:

Rhee wakes in a hospital, unable to recall the last three years of her life.
The doctors warn her to be ready to confront all the change that might have happened, but she is dismayed to find none.
She’s still riding out the recession underemployed and living with her dad, and still bouncing back and forth between her ex-boyfriend and ex-girlfriend.
She is looking for a future–but her exes take advantage of her memory loss to try to get a second chance at the past.
They jockey for her favor as New Year’s Eve arrives, and all three must decide what they really want out of a new year.

You can watch the full film here! After his debut, the filmmaker decided to skip the festival route and go straight to the internet with the dramedic web series “Allston Xmas.” The show takes place in Boston during early September when, due to incoming college students and looming lease dates, everyone moves on the same stretch of days. This series contains stand-alone episodes following different people partaking on that fateful holiday. The entirety of the show can be found right here.

The filmmaker enjoyed both the straight-to-the-web approach and the form of storytelling so he made his latest project, “We’ve Got History,” also a web series. The episodes still contain stand-alone plots but, unlike his previous work, this focuses on two characters in particular: Nora and Daniel, exes who both happen to be costumed American Revolution tour guides. It’s very funny and the political backdrop gives it a depth that most series don’t have. Teasers can be viewed over here. Right now Jared is on Kickstarter hoping to fund a season of eleven minute episodes, so check it out and if you can give, give!

On the podcast we spoke about going straight to the web with a project, being both a programmer and filmmaker, and Kickstarter tips and tricks.
