'Poetry' Director Lee Chang-dong To Start Shooting First Film In 6 Years Next Month

South Korean director Lee Chang-dong tends to be unhurried when it comes to making feature films. The acclaimed director took a five-year break between “Oasis” and “Secret Sunshine,” and another three years elapsed until his last feature, 2010’s “Poetry.” That film was arguably his best received yet, winning Best Screenplay and the Prize of the Ecumenical Jury – Special Mention at Cannes. Things have been quiet since, but the filmmaker is heading back behind the camera.

Next month, Lee will start shooting his next movie, which is currently untitled. Kang Dong-won and Yoo Ah-in are expected to star in what’s being described as a mystery thriller about a woman who becomes entangled with two men, one rich, and the other trying to make ends meet. That’s about all the details at the moment.

Even Lee Chang-dong remains cautious, saying at the Busan International Film Festival that issues could crop up that might hold things back. But let’s hope it’s all systems go and we have a new movie from the director next year. [Chosun Media]
