Reese Witherspoon & Simon Kinberg To Team Up For Sci-Fi Thriller 'Pyros'

This summer has not been the best for filmmaker Simon Kinberg. After writing and producing the bulk of Fox’sX-Men’ franchise, Kinberg was given the keys to the castle, allowing him to write and direct “Dark Phoenix.” Of course, we all know how that went, with the film receiving some of the worst reviews of the entire franchise and the worst box office for a major superhero film in a long while. But yet, Kinberg continues to land on his feet, as he’s lining up a new project with none other than Reese Witherspoon.

According to Deadline, Witherspoon and Kinberg are teaming for the film “Pyros,” which is now being bid on by studios. As of now, Kinberg is set to produce the film, with Witherspoon set to star. “Pyros” is based on the short story “Tardy Man” written by Thomas Pierce, who is also adapting it for the big screen.

“Pyros” is a sci-fi thriller about a group of people that have indestructible fire suits that are fused to their spines, allowing them to enter burning buildings with no problem. They’re hired by wealthy people to help save items while their homes are burning. However, the film’s plot follows one of these people who breaks the rules of the group and instead of focusing only on the valuable items, decides to save a human instead.

In addition to “Dark Phoenix,” Kinberg is signed on to direct the upcoming spy thriller “355,” starring Jessica Chastain and an all-star cast of actresses. Witherspoon, of course, is a massive star that has been venturing into the realm of producing in recent years, with a number of projects on her slate. Her HBO series “Big Little Lies” just finished its second season.

No word on when we might see “Pyros” in theaters.
