'Rodeo Queen': Dakota Johnson To Star In New Comedy Series Directed By Carrie Brownstein

Over the past few years, we’ve seen Amazon Prime Video move from being the place for unique, award-winning series to more big-budget franchise fare, such as “Jack Ryan” and the forthcoming billion-dollar “Lord of the Rings.” However, sometimes, the streamer will surprise you, as is the case with the upcoming series “Rodeo Queen.”

According to Deadline, Amazon has signed on to develop a new mockumentary-style series called “Rodeo Queen,” from executive producer and star Dakota Johnson, creator Christy Hall, and director Carrie Brownstein. As you might guess from the title, the series takes a look at the behind-the-scenes drama of a competitive rodeo queen pageant.

Dakota Johnson has one of the more interesting careers in Hollywood. The daughter of two actors, Johnson started with small roles and headlined a short-lived (but funny) sitcom. However, her massive break came when she signed to star in the ‘50 Shades’ film trilogy, making her an instant superstar. But instead of transitioning from that franchise to a Marvel Studios film, she’s continued to make really interesting, surprising choices, starring in “Suspiria” and “A Bigger Splash” from Luca Guadagnino, as well as “Bad Times at the El Royale,” “Wounds,” and “The Peanut Butter Falcon.” Long story short, she’s a super talented actress that is doing things right.

Joining her is Christy Hall and Carrie Brownstein, who are some of the best creators in Hollywood today. Hall is probably best known for her recent Netflix hit, “I Am Not Okay With This,” and will now serve as the showrunner for “Rodeo Queen.” Brownstein is probably best known for her musical background and as the co-star of IFC’sPortlandia.” However, she recently co-wrote “The Nowhere Inn,” which has a cameo from Johnson.

If you can’t tell by now, “Rodeo Queen” is a series that folks are going to want to check out immediately when it is eventually released. A talented lead plus two great filmmakers are sure to make the mockumentary great. Hopefully, the series will get into production soon.
