Rumor: Kathryn Bigelow, Catherine Hardwicke & More On Shortlist To Direct 'Wonder Woman'

Kathryn Bigelow, Catherine Hardwicke Wonder WomanWith Warner Bros. laying out the roadmap for their DC Comics movies through 2020, get ready for years of speculation about cast members and directors, so let’s get started with "Wonder Woman." THR reports that the studio is already looking for a woman to direct the Gal Gadot-starring film slated for 2017. Meanwhile, over at Forbes, they’ve already got a list of the names that are apparently on WB’s shortlist. Let’s take a look….

According to business site, Kathryn Bigelow ("Zero Dark Thirty"), Catherine Hardwicke ("Twilight"), Karyn Kusama ("Girlfight"), Mimi Leder ("Deep Impact"), and Julie Taymor ("Across The Universe") are all names being tossed around. Of course, some are more likely than others, even at first glance.

Bigelow seems a long shot, though is easily the most desirable name from a studio standpoint. She’s an acclaimed, Oscar-winning filmmaker who can do action and drama, and would bring a serious face to "Wonder Woman." That said, this seems about a million miles from what Bigelow is interested in doing. Hardwick is probably the most obvious choice given her blockbuster experience, coupled with a strong history telling stories from a female perspective.

Leder is a smart choice, given her tentpole background, and while she’s done excellent work in television recently ("The Leftovers," "Shameless"), she hasn’t directed a feature since 2009’s "The Code," which you probably didn’t even remember existed. This would be a major leap back into summer movie world. Kusama might be the controversial name on the list, given she had a tentpole shot with "Aeon Flux" and kinda blew it. Then there’s Taymor, who is a bit of a left field option, though clearly she puts together impressive visuals.

TV directors Michelle MacLaren ("Game of Thrones") and Tricia Brock ("Person of Interest") are also said to be in the mix too, but hey WB, how about Patty Jenkins ("Monster") who almost helmed "Thor: The Dark World"?

Thoughts? Who do you think will bring "Wonder Woman" to the big screen? Let us know below. The golden lasso is thrown on June 23, 2017.
