American audiences will know Arthur Harari best as the co-writer of “Anatomy Of A Fall,” for which he won a Golden Globe, a BAFTA, a César, and an Academy Award for Best Original Screenplay. But Harari is also a filmmaker in his own right, and his latest film, “The Unknown,” is getting ready to hit theaters overseas later this summer. When will it hit US theaters? Stay tuned on that, but expect it stateside before the year closes given the star power of its main actress, Léa Seydoux.
Fresh off its world premiere at Cannes, “The Unknown” follows a Parisian photographer whose life changes forever after he swaps bodies with a woman after sexual intercourse. Read on for an official synopsis for “The Unknown,” courtesy of Pathe:
David Zimmerman, almost 40, is a photographer but no one knows it. When friends drag him to a wild party, he spots a woman in the crowd and can’t take his eyes off her, he follows her… A few hours later, David wakes up: he’s in the body of the unknown woman.
Along with Seydoux, “The Unknown” also stars Niels Schneider, Victoire De Bois, Lilith Grasmug, Valérie Dréville, Shanti Masud, Radu Jude, and Jonathan Turnbull.
Harari directs a script by himself, Lucas Harari, and Vincent Poymiro for “The Unknown.” Producers on the film include Nicolas Anthomé and Lionel Guedj.
As noted earlier, “The Unknown” had its world premiere in competition at the Cannes Film Festival in May, where it received mixed reviews from critics. The Playlist’s review of the film out of the festival awarded it a B-, praising Seydoux’s performance.
“The Unknown” hits French cinemas on August 26; stay tuned for an official theatrical release date for the US. Watch the new trailer for the film below.
