Two years ago, when you thought of Hulu, you probably only of re-runs from network TV and “The Handmaid’s Tale.” Well, after 2019, it’s clear that Hulu has some Original Series worth checking out that won’t make you afraid for the future of our society, including the breakout comedy hit “Shrill.” And to kick off 2020, the streaming service is bringing back Aidy Bryant’s comedy series for a new batch of episodes.

As seen in the trailer for “Shrill” Season 2, the comedy series is ready to explore new issues related to its main character’s ever-growing confidence. For those not familiar, “Shrill” tells the story of a struggling journalist, Annie, trying to make it in her field while also not fitting in because she doesn’t fit the typical body shape. The first season featured Annie growing in her field, as well as having her confidence reach new levels thanks to meeting other women like herself and finding love.

Season 2 picks up where that left off, with Annie and her new boyfriend taking their relationship to the next level —meeting the parents— as well as the young journalist starting a new job that allows her to flex her creative muscles a bit more than what she was doing at The Thorn. How does she do that? Well, by interviewing naked bicyclists that love to talk about the wind on their balls. I mean, it’s a comedy series, after all.

Joining Bryant in the cast are Lolly Adefope, Luka Jones, John Cameron Mitchell, Ian Owens, Patti Harrison (probably the biggest scene-stealer in the cast), Daniel Stern, and Julia Sweeney.

“Shrill” Season 2 premieres on Hulu on January 24.

Here’s the synopsis:

From Executive Producers Lorne Michaels and Elizabeth Banks comes the second season of Shrill, a comedy series starring Aidy Bryant (Saturday Night Live) as Annie, a young woman who wants to change her life — but at what cost? Having found a new sense of self confidence and control, Annie finds that the life she’s been chasing with Ryan, her friends, her family and her own career aren’t quite what she imagined. She’s got the confidence. Now what is she going to do with it?
