Sound Of Metal And Ted Lasso Earn 2021 ACE Eddie Awards Nominations

Did we suggest there were no more guild honors to be handed out? Surprise! It’s not the ASC that has the last laugh before Oscar nominations, but the American Cinema Editors instead. The society revealed their nominees for the 71st Eddie Awards this morning which gave major Academy Award and Emmy boosts to “Sound of Metal,” “Minari,” “Ted Lasso,” and “The Queen’s Gambit.”

The most prestigious category is Feature Film (Dramatic) where “Sound of Metal,” “Minari,” “Nomadland,” “Mank,” and “The Trial of the Chicago 7” made the cut. The nominees for Feature Film (Comedy) included “Promising Young Woman,” “I Care A Lot,” “Borat Subsequent Moviefilm,” “On the Rocks,” and “Palm Springs.”

On the television side, both “Ted Lasso” and “What We Do In Shadows” earned double nominations in their respective categories. Somewhat noteworthy as there were only four nods overall in those categories. Other television nominees included “Cheer,” “This Is Us,” “Euphoria,” “Watchmen,” and “Saturday Night Live.”

The 2021 ACE Eddies will be handed out in a virtual ceremony on April 17 which will honor Spike Lee with the Golden Eddie Filmmaker of the Year Award and recognize Lynzee Klingman, ACE and Sidney Wolinsky, ACE with career achievement awards.
