Spider-Man's First Marvel-Verse Appearance Reportedly In 'Captain America: Civil War'; 'Sinister Six' Delayed

Spider-Man, Captain AmericaGood morning, and in case you haven’t had your coffee yet, the Marvel-verse experienced a massive change overnight. Marvel and Sony announced a deal where they’d be taking Peter Parker in a new creative direction, with Sony financing, distributing, owning, and continuing to have final creative say on the character. But Marvel will get to put the webslinger in their films, and we may even see some characters from the Marvel-verse drop into future solo Spider-Man movies, the first of which will kick off in 2017. But we’re going to get a taste of the new Spidey beforehand.

The Wall Street Journal reports that according to their sources, the new Spidey’s first appearance in the Marvel-verse will be in "Captain America: Civil War." And this is hardly a surprise. That appearance has been rumored for a while now, but it likely won’t be too significant. The script for ‘Civil War’ was apparently locked a while back, and considering they have yet to even cast the new Peter Parker, you can probably count on a cameo at most; he won’t be an integral part of the story. But it will be a nice set up for the standalone movie dropping in the summer of 2017.

Meanwhile, Drew Goddard‘s "Sinister Six" movie planned for next year has been delayed. Again, not an unexpected outcome given this Marvel-verse Spidey shuffle. Frankly, I’d be surprised if it stays on the calendar at all, or at least isn’t reconfigured to fit the Marvel/Sony comic world crossover.

So there’s your latest update in what is sure to be lots more. Spider-Man suddenly has a new spring in his step.
