Stephen Dorff Talks Sofia Coppola's 'Somewhere'

This month’s Interview Magazine with “Mad Men” star January Jones on the cover features an artist-on-artist interview with Owen Wilson taking on fellow actor Stephen Dorff as his subject.

In it, Dorff takes to discussing Sofia Coppola’s upcoming film “Somewhere,” which will center on a bad-boy actor (Dorff) who is wasting away in the celebrity-clad Chateau Marmont when his estranged 11 year-old daughter, played by Elle Fanning, shows up for an unexpected visit.

“‘I’m going to be moving in [Chateau Marmont] soon,” the actor revealed – though subsequently evidencing that the interview dates pre-June as Dorff had revealed to Movieline then that the film was currently shooting. “I’ll actually be living there as we shoot, which is kind of cool. My character is going through some kind of personal crisis.”

“He’s an actor, yeah, who’s got a kid. And there have been a lot of changes in his life. It’s really in Sofia’s style. It’s very poetic and sweet and unique. It’s not the kind of script we get sent very often…Her scripts are famously short. She doesn’t write everything down and spell it out for the reader; I think she leaves a lot in private.”

Admittedly, there’s not a lot to offer here but, frankly, we’re such big fans of Coppola that any update on her hush project is enough to get us out of our chair.

While the film will predominantly be set in Sunset Boulevard’s Chateau Marmont, Dorff previously revealed that the project will in fact deviate from the hotel with scenes in Italy.

Joining Dorff and Fanning in Coppola’s first effort since 2006’s “Marie Antoinette” will also be “Jackass” star Chris Pontius as Dorff’s character’s best friend with a cameo by indie-rockers Rooney, who are led by Coppola’s cousin and brother of Jason, Robert Schwartzman. Rooney also inadvertently unveiled a cameo by Benicio Del Toro who will reportedly have a run-in with Dorff’s character probably as a fellow actor.

“Somewhere” should see release sometime in 2010 and will definitely be one of our most anticipated for films for 2010. [Interview via I Heart Sofia]
