Netflix Renews 'Stranger Things' For Season 3

Just like yesterday’s announcement for “Mindhunter,” this was inevitable but now it’s official: “Stranger Things” will be back for a third season.

Netflix has renewed their biggest, and most popular show, which is coming off a second season that was plenty satisfying, but perhaps slightly cooled the pop culture pull of the series. As you might guess, there are absolutely zero details right now, not even a date when it might arrive. While I’m sure the streaming giant would love a new season to land before 2018 is over, I would not be surprised if they gave Matt and Ross Duffer a moment to breathe. They duo went straight out of season one, right into season two.

When we chatted with the pair earlier this year, they shared that making nine episodes for season two was exhausting, and that they wanted to slim things down again for season three.

“I think we’re going to try to go back to eight. Because I just remember even when we were writing, and we’re like, ‘Oh, we have one more script.’ We were all like about to pass out. Like somehow, that extra script just made everyone’s lives very difficult,” Matt Duffer said.

“Yeah, psychologically, [it wasn’t] the best,” Ross Duffer added.

When it comes to doing another back-to-back season, Matt Duffer explains they’d prefer to break out of the year-by-year pattern. “I think people want us to keep doing more, but you know for us, it’s all about quality control. Like people want, television particularly, they want it on this annual cycle. Movie sequels never come out on an annual cycle, unless they’re shooting back to back,” he explained.

At any rate, another adventure into The Upside Down awaits, and we’ll be there for the journey.
