For the uninitiated, the irreverent series follows a team of ordinary, everyday humans who are hell-bent on exposing the dark underbelly of the seemingly wholesome Justice League-esque superhero team known as The Seven, who are secretly vapid, self-obsessed celebrities that care more about their popularity than saving human lives. On the latest episode of Bingeworthy, Jack Quaid stops by to discuss playing Hughie Campbell, who has traditionally been on the run throughout the series but is actually in a place of contentment when the third season begins.

“[It felt] weird! Really weird.” Quaid said of Hughie being happy for once in the show. “I was doing interviews with Karen Fukuhara earlier today, and she was saying that it’s so strange to be happy on this show. Like, anytime we have a scene where you are smiling, it feels weird, and I completely agree. The challenge with the early part of the season is pretending like Hughie has this life that he sees no potential faults in. He thinks everything’s going great.”

Of course, things go off the rails for good old Hughie and the rest of “The Boys,” which leads them to an event that has been hotly anticipated by fans of the comics and is appropriately titled “Herogasm.”

“That was a big thing because I read a lot of the comics, and the ‘Herogasm’ issue was obviously a very memorable one, and the fact that we got to do that was awesome.” Quaid shared about the heavily explicit episode. “And I knew it was going to be weird [to shoot], but you start shooting it, and it kind of starts to feel normal. You weirdly get used to it, but I’m just excited for audiences to see because I think – Yes, it is very shocking, but the story that we built around all of that and the places that the characters all go – it’s some of our best. I think it’s maybe one of our best episodes.”

Quaid can next be seen in a small mystery role in Christopher Nolan’s latest film, “Oppenheimer,” which is the story of American scientist J. Robert Oppenheimer (Cillian Murphy) and his role in developing the atomic bomb. Quaid couldn’t share who he plays just yet, but he was still in awe of his set experience.

“Shooting that was such an incredible experience. Like, I’m like a blip in that movie, but it was just so incredible to sit there and watch true masters do what they do.” Quaid said of the upcoming film. “Like, to watch Chris [Nolan] work, watch the cast work, like, it’s such a murderer’s row of incredible actors that I just got to see do their thing, and feel so lucky that I got to just take that in and hopefully learn from it. I don’t know. I still don’t believe that I’m in that movie, either.”

The first three episodes of “The Boys” Season 3 premiere on Prime Video on Friday, June 3. You can listen to the entire conversation below.
