'The Damning Of A Country Merchant': Peter Sarsgaard & Mackenzie Davis To Star In New Horror Film

It feels like, more and more, the entertainment industry tends to focus on massive A-list stars and huge, tentpole films and TV series. If you’re not one of the Chrises (Pratt, Pine, Evans, Hemsworth) or the latest Marvel Studios project, then it’s not on many people’s radar. This is a shame, especially when you consider the upcoming horror film, “The Damning of a Country Merchant,” and who is leading the cast. This is a film, based on who’s involved, everyone should be hyped for.

According to Deadline, Mackenzie Davis and Peter Sarsgaard are set to headline a new horror film, “The Damning of a Country Merchant,” which is to be directed by Matthew Rosenbaum. The film tells the story of a rural mercantile family in 1910 Indiana, led by Sarsgaard, who has their world turned upside down when a wealthy industrialist comes to town and begins an affair with his wife (Davis). From there, the “twisted horror” film descends into darkness.

Mackenzie Davis and Peter Sarsgaard are two of the best actors working today, so it’s exciting to see them team up for this film. Davis is probably best known for projects such as “Halt and Catch Fire” (one of the best TV series of the past decade), “Tully,” and “Station Eleven.” Sarsgaard recently has shown up in projects like “The Batman,” “Dopesick,” and “The Survivor.”

“The Damning of a Country Merchant” marks the directorial debut of filmmaker Rosenbaum. In addition to directing the feature, he’s also the writer of the script.

“The Damning of a Country Merchant” is a project that is making the trip to the Cannes Market to look for a studio for distribution. Hopefully, it’s picked up and begins filming sooner rather than later.
