Despite production well underway in France on the fourth season of “The White Lotus” (the Cannes Film Festival being a pivot plot element and backdrop of the next batch of episodes), they lost a key cast member recently, with Helena Bonham Carter exiting after the part didn’t exactly gel, and they’ve found her replacement.
Laura Dern has been tapped by creator/director Mike White and HBO to join the mega-popular show, according to a report from Variety. However, Carter’s role has been scrapped, and Dern will be playing a new character written by White. This is quite a get for the series that is well-known for being able to attract seasoned and new talent from across the globe.

She’ll be joining a rather large cast that consists of Sandra Bernhard, Steve Coogan, Caleb Jonte Edwards, Ari Graynor, Marissa Long, Alexander Ludwig, Max Greenfield, Kumail Nanjiani, Chloe Bennet, Charlie Hall, Jarrad Paul, Chris Messina, AJ Michalka, Dylan Ennis, Vincent Cassel, Corentin Fila, Nadia Tereszkiewicz, Heather Graham, Rosie Perez, Ben Schnetzer, Tobias Santelmann, Frida Gustavsson, and Laura Smet.
Of course, the veteran actress earned a Best Supporting Actress Oscar statue for “Marriage Story” and appeared in the Bradley Cooper-directed stand-up drama “Is This Thing On?,” co-starring with Will Arnett. Dern, who got major attention for appearing in films from the late David Lynch, has always been able to juggle blockbusters like “Star Wars: The Last Jedi” and “Jurassic World: Dominion” with more character-driven roles alongside those popcorn flicks.
Hopefully, there won’t be any more major casting shake-ups, and “The White Lotus” can chug along with Dern now on board.
