'Time Bandits': Lisa Kudrow, Charlyne Yi & More Join Taika Waititi's Apple TV+ Series

Back in March 2019, it was reported that Taika Waititi had worked out a deal to co-write and direct a new reimagining of “Time Bandits” for Apple TV+. However, since then, there really hasn’t been much concrete news about the show. That said, it appears the show is ready to move full speed ahead with a full cast of actors joining the comedy series.

According to Variety, Taika Waititi has found his main cast for “Time Bandits,” the remake of the Terry Gilliam film of the same name. The series, according to the official synopsis, is “a comedic journey through time and space with a ragtag group of thieves and their newest recruit: an eleven-year-old history nerd.”

Leading the cast is “Friends” star Lisa Kudrow. She’s joined by Charlyne Yi, Kal-El Tuck, Tadhg Murphy, Roger Jean Nsengiyumva, Rune Temte, Kiera Thompson, and Rachel House. As mentioned, Waititi is not only producing the show, but he’s also on board as a co-writer of the pilot and the director of the first two episodes.

Waititi has found quite a bit of success recently on TV. Not only is he working on “Time Bandits,” but he’s a producer on a number of hit shows such as “What We Do In The Shadows,” “Reservation Dogs,” and the breakout hit of 2022, “Our Flag Means Death.”

The original “Time Bandits” is directed by Gilliam, who co-wrote the film along with his “Monty Python” collaborator, Michael Palin. The film was released in 1981 and didn’t have a ton of success at the box office. However, in the decades since its release, “Time Bandits” has earned a cult following, much like a lot of Gilliam’s films.

No release date has been set for “Time Bandits.”
