Timothée Chalamet’s Bob Dylan Film Directed By James Mangold Shelved For Now Due To COVID Restrictions

Back in January, when COVID wasn’t a global pandemic and the film industry was operating as if everything was perfectly fine, it was announced that Timothée Chalamet was set to star as Bob Dylan in a biopic directed by James Mangold. According to a Collider interview with cinematographer Phedon Papamichael, that Bob Dylan film is going to be put on the backburner due to the recently released COVID precautions that studios are taking. And because of that, Papamichael and Mangold are moving onto other projects.

“I don’t think it’s dead,” said Papamichael about the Chalamet-led biopic,” but it’s a tough one to pull off in a COVID-era because it’s all in small clubs with lots of extras in period costumes, so you’ve got lots of hair and makeup. Or maybe not ever.

Obviously, we can’t be too concerned about the death of the project in relation to the careers of those involved. Mangold has ‘Indy 5,’ and Chalamet is plenty busy, as well. Not only does he have a starring role in Denis Villeneuve’s upcoming “Dune” and in Wes Anderson’sThe French Dispatch,” but Chalamet has also recently signed on to star in Adam McKay’s Netflix film, “Don’t Look Up.”
