Tom Hiddleston Knew Loki Would Get His Own Series Well Before The Release Of 'Infinity War'

It’s been a joke in the ‘Thor’ film series at Marvel Studios for years, but it still rings true today — just because you watch Tom Hiddleston’s Loki character die, doesn’t actually mean he’s gone for good. And last we saw Loki, in “Avengers: Infinity War,” his neck was snapped by Thanos. Pretty much a definitive ending, right? Ha! Silly fan. Not only is he coming back, but Hiddleston apparently knew about it well before ‘Infinity War’ was in theaters.

Speaking to MTVNews, the MCU actor discussed exactly when he learned that Loki would return in his own self-titled Disney+ streaming service, and it was well before fans had any idea. In fact, while Loki fans were bawling their eyes out in their ‘Infinity War’ screenings, Hiddleston knew that he’d be reprising the role of the God of Mischief.

“I knew about six weeks before the worldwide release of ‘Avengers: Infinity War,’” he said. “Which meant I had to go and do press for ‘Avengers: Infinity War’ going, ‘Yup, that’s it, guys.’ So, I did know back then, but I didn’t know what the pitch [or] the story was.”

We still don’t know a ton about what to expect with the “Loki” streaming series. What we can surmise is that the Loki we’ll see Hiddleston portray is not the one that died on the end of the outstretched hand of Thanos. Instead, it’ll be an alternate universe version of the character that got ahold of the Tesseract in “Avengers: Endgame.” That means the series is likely a tour of the multiverse or alternate realities by way of everyone’s favorite charming, but always-scheming, Norse god.

This admission by Hiddleston also shows the power of Marvel Studios to be able to plan a TV series that won’t premiere until spring 2021 when they’re about to release a film in 2018. It also speaks to the lying capabilities of Hiddleston to be able to sidestep any questions about his character’s fate while doing a massive press tour with interviewers looking for any crumb of news.

All that being said, what’s done is done and fans will see the new “Loki” streaming series on Disney+ in 2021.
