So, did you think the brief love affair with Marilyn Monroe was going to end once the awards season was over, and "My Week With Marilyn" faded from view? Guess again. The famed actress is one of the few Hollywood icons who continues to fascinate, influence and be commemorated and a star studded documentary is on the way that will once again peel back the layers and try and get to the heart of the mystery behind Marilyn Monroe.
Take a deep breath as Screen Daily report that Uma Thurman, Viola Davis, Lindsay Lohan (who has recreated Monroe photoshoots more than once), Paul Giamatti, Ellen Burstyn, Evan Rachel Wood, Lili Taylor, Zoe Saldana, David Strathairn, Jennifer Ehle, F. Murray Abraham, Vanessa Shaw, Michelle Monaghan and Gretchen Mol are all aboard "Fragments," from director Liz Garbus who helmed the solid "Bobby Fischer Against The World."
Using the book of the same name which collects Monroe's poems, notes and letters, and with participation from the Arthur Miller and Truman Capote estates who have contributed more material, the doc will take an interesting, with each of the actresses embodying the legend at various stages in her life. As for the dudes, Giamatti will be reading George Cukor (who directed Marilyn in "Something's Got To Give" and "Let's Make Love") while Abraham will be taking on the role of Monroe's psychiatrist.
“We’re working with amazing material. It will go to the heart of Marilyn and express some of the aspects of the woman which have not been touched on before. The actors will convey Marilyn’s fears, anxieties, the men in her life, agents of both good and evil, and the context of the world she lived in," Garbus explains. "Marilyn was foregrounding her sexuality in a world that wasn’t quite ready for that and her struggle is palpable in these texts. We also discover how hard she worked at her acting and her passion for the craft."
And this is moving very fast. The flim is expected to wrapped up in time for the 50th anniversay of Monroe's death on August 12th. So it's probably not too much of a stretch to guess we'll see it this fall, and we're definitely looking forward to it.
