'WandaVision': Marvel Boss Won't Give A "Definite No" About Season 2 Of The Series

With the evolution of television programming, thanks to streaming services, the boundaries of what is a TV show and what isn’t, as well as what the rules are for structuring series and continuing them after they “end,” are all changing. We’ve seen more limited series than ever before, with fans understanding that TV shows don’t have to run for 10 seasons to be considered a success. And with that in mind, Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige is going to embrace both models when it comes to his Disney+ superhero slate of programming.

As revealed as part of the recent TCA Panel (via Deadline), Kevin Feige talked about the future of Marvel Studios’ TV projects, especially in light of the runaway success of “WandaVision,” and which are destined to be limited series and which are going to follow the more traditional, multi-season approach.

When it comes to “WandaVision,” it appears that Feige isn’t ready to completely rule out a sequel season but makes it clear that it probably isn’t in the cards.

“I’ve been at Marvel too long to say a definite ‘No’ to anything as far as a second season of ‘WandaVision,’” said Feige. “Lizzy Olsen will go from ‘WandaVision’ to the ‘Doctor Strange’ film.”

The “Doctor Strange” film that he’s referring to is the upcoming sequel, “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.” It’s been known for a while that the events of “WandaVision” would lead into this film, and given the way the story is structured for the Disney+ series, it’s clear that this show doesn’t really have much room for a sequel. And you know what, that’s totally okay, given that we’re likely going to see these characters show up elsewhere down the line, and the “WandaVision” story works best as its own self-contained thing.

But what about other shows? Can we expect more “The Falcon and the Winter Soldier?” What about the rumored Season 2 of “Loki” that has been speculated? Well, Feige explains that it will all be story-driven, with some series leading to films and some series continuing on their own path.

“The fun of the MCU is obviously all the crossover we can do between series, between films. So it will vary based on the story. Sometimes it will go into a Season 2, sometimes it will go into a feature and back into a series,” said Feige. “Sometimes, and yet to be announced, we’re thinking of and planning second seasons for some of the upcoming series.”

As mentioned, “Loki” is the first one that people are assuming will have a Season 2. There are also upcoming shows like “Ms. Marvel,” which is said to lead directly into “Captain Marvel 2.” However, if “Ms. Marvel” becomes hugely popular, there’s nothing stopping Marvel Studios from continuing that characters story in future seasons after she’s done in “Captain Marvel 2.”

Basically, don’t assume you know the plans for Marvel Studios and Disney+. And at the very least, treat each series as its own thing until proven otherwise.

“WandaVision” has a new episode coming this Friday.
