Watch: 5 Clips From 'Men In Black 3' Fail To Convince This Sequel Was Necessary

nullUpdate: HitFix has a couple more you can watch below too.

In a few weeks "Men In Black 3" will land in theaters, nearly a full decade after the last installment, and the big question will be: did this need to be made? Judging by the first few clips from the film, the answer is "No."

Sony punched up their marketing campaign a bit yesterday by unspooling some new scenes online, and it's pretty painful stuff, already feeling dusty and dated. The first clip, meant to show off some cool futuristic unicycle-like devices, comes off as pretty goofy (it's hard to take this chase sequence seriously with both Will Smith and Josh Brolin looking ridiculous on these things). And worse, nothing about the pursuit feels interesting or innovative. The second clip is a much duller affair, with Smith and Josh Brolin seemingly meeting for the first time at headquarters. The last clip addresses the contemporary issue of cell phone use on airplanes with a "What's the deal with that?" sort of vibe.

But hey, maybe the kids will like it? Even if some of them weren't born when the first one came out? "Men In Black 3" opens on May 25th. [Yahoo/MSN/Fandango]
