Watch: Cross-Dressing, Line Dancing & Lizzy Caplan In ‘Queens Of Country’ Trailer

Lizzy Caplan wasn’t kidding when earlier this year she told us that the forthcoming indie comedy, "Queens of Country," was "a super strange, really funny movie." The trailer that has landed certainly confirms the "strange" part, but as for the "funny," we’ll let you decide.

“Queens of Country” finds Caplan playing a young woman obsessed with the titular singers, the likes of Loretta Lynn, Dolly Parton and Tammy Wynette. When she discovers an iPod full of songs by those artists, she becomes intent on tracking down its owner, convinced that it’ll belong to her true love. Her boyfriend, played by Ron Livingston, is obviously not too pleased with her quest and hires a geek, played by an almost unrecognizable Tool frontman James Maynard Keenan, to pose as the owner, retrieve the iPod and then send Caplan on her way. And oh yeah, there is a cross-dressing Joe Lo Truglio in there as well. As you might guess, the comedy in this is quite broad and certainly odd, and while we like everyone involved, this one misses quite a bit more than it ever hits.

The film is directed by Ryan Page and Christopher Pomerenke, who were behind the documentaries “The Heart Is a Drum Machine” and “Blood Into Wine” (the latter about Keenan’s wine-making business), and "Queens of Country" will boast a score written by Modest Mouse frontman Isaac Brock. The film is currently in post-production and will hit theaters in 2012. [via The Film Stage]
