Update 10/04: It looks Joaquin Phoenix didn’t put this one together. “While it was widely reported that Pusha T used my beat and that I produced his song, I can’t take any credit,” he told XXL. ”A friend’s son played me his music, and all I did was make an introduction to Kanye’s camp.”

We’re called The Playlist, so we try to be hip to what the kids are listening to, and while we have no idea where Pusha T stands on the pop culture index, we’re stoked for his forthcoming solo record My Name Is My Name. And to get your weekend started right, a new jam from the album has dropped and not only is it badass, it’s co-produced Joaquin Phoenix.

Yep, the actor—who once fake flirted with a hip-hop career as chronicled in the underrated and hilarious documentary “I’m Still Here“—dropped some beats on this one, with Kanye West stepping in to add his flourish on it as well. The result? It rules. It leans toward the starker production of Yeezus though retains the trademark soulful sampling that West has been doing since day one, and it combines for a pretty killer cut, with Pusha T once again showing why he’s one of the best around. Watch/listen below. Damn. My Name Is My Name streets on October 8th.
