It’s been a while since there was any news about Martin McDonagh‘s next movie, “Wild Horse Nine“; in fact, the last juicy tidbit came last March, when Steve Buscemi replaced Mark Ruffalo on the cast sheet. But now there’s bigger news afoot: Deadline reports that Searchlight has a theatrical release date lined up for this pic: November 6, just in time for awards season consideration.

And having “Wild Horse Nine” nab more than a few awards is exactly what Searchlight thinks will happen with this one, given how many Oscar nods McDonagh’s last two films got (nine for 2022’s “The Banshees Of Inisherin,” and seven for 2017’s “Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri, including wins for Best Actress for Frances McDormand and Best Supporting Actor for Sam Rockwell). Also, given that Fall release date, it’s safe to expect a Venice bow for McDonagh’s latest like those two films, but we shall see.
Set in 1973 Chile, “Wild Horse Nine” follows two CIA agents, one of whom with shadowy connections to the JFK assassination, who face a trust-testing journey to Easter Island after the agency’s coup to overthrow the Chilean government. John Malkovich, Sam Rockwell, and Buscemi star in the picture, with Mariana di Girolamo, Ailín Salas, Tom Waits, and Parker Posey also on board. As per usual, McDonagh writes and directs the film. Producers on “Wild Horse Nine” include Graham Broadbent, Pete Czernin, McDonagh, and Anita Overland.
So, will “Wild Horse Nine” be Martin McDonagh’s Oscar breakthrough (he did win one for Best Live Action Short in 2006 for “Six Shooter)? First things first: his latest facing off against Warner Bros.‘ “The Cat In The Hat,” Sony‘s “Archangel,” and “Godzilla Minus Zero” at the box office on its opening weekend. Mark your calendars for November 6: this one is one of 2026’s most anticipated films.
