You Will Have To Wait One Month Longer For Spike Jonze's 'Her' As Warner Bros. Moves Film For Awards Season

There is no doubt that last week’s arrival of the trailer for Spike Jonze‘s “Her” made major waves. Not only was it a surprisingly heartfelt and charming spot for a movie that was a question mark for many, it was also buoyed by news that it will be powered by a score from Montreal’s Arcade Fire. And Warner Bros. has certainly heard the early buzz and now they’re hoping it can turn into some award season hardware.

The studio has moved the movie from a previously planned November 20th limited release opening to December 18th, with “Her” to open in New York, Los Angeles and Toronto. So what does that mean for those of you not in those cities? Sorry, you’ll get the movie in 2014 when it goes wide on January 10th. This is all being done likely to give folks at Warner Bros. more time to get the awards season machinery in place for the flick, which means planning no small number of screening, parties, galas and more. And undoubtedly, rounding up as much of the cast—Joaquin Phoenix, Rooney Mara, Amy Adams, Olivia Wilde, Scarlett Johansson, Chris Pratt—to do interviews and press ops.

As for festival appearances, right now the film is only slated to close the New York Film Festival where it will make its official world premiere. But one wonders if it will pop up in Telluride at the end of the month to get its award season officially underway.

Either way, you’ll have to wait just a bit longer for this one to reach a theater near you. [Deadline]
