Earlier this year, DC Films flag-waver Kevin Smith tossed out the posit that though Ezra Miller has already been cast as The Flash for the DC Films universe, Grant Gustin from The CW show could still make an appearance.
"We did a piece [on CW’s advertorial ‘DC Films Presents: Dawn of the Justice League‘] where we talked about — I don’t know how much I’m supposed to say because they cut it out, but the idea [came up] of, ‘Hey man, DC is known for nothing if not a multiverse,’ so at which point I was like [to Geoff Johns], ‘Could they [frick]ing crossover?’ And he was like, ‘Ahh.’ So doors are being left open and stuff like that," the filmmaker said. However, according to Zack Snyder, a major player in the DC Films braintrust, that’s not going to happen.
“I just don’t think it was a good fit,” the director told New York Daily News. “I’m very strict with this universe and I just don’t see a version where…that [tone is] not our world.”
While tone has been one of the major critical targets in the reception to "Batman v Superman: Dawn Of Justice," for the moment, it seems like there are no plans to change stride with "Justice League" gearing up to shoot next month. And with the entire superhero team already cast, Snyder isn’t about to add any more players to the pot.
“Even if Grant Gustin is my favorite guy in the world and he’s very good…it’s just not a thing that’s possible,” Snyder added. Sorry, Grant.
As for upcoming team-up movie, Snyder shared with Collider that the title might change (or more likely, get expanded, given it’s the first of two parts). "Right now the working title is ‘Justice League.’ Actually, I’m in that phase where I’ve been drawing logos and I’ve been drawing title treatments and stuff like that to try and figure out what it means, what ‘Justice League’ is, visually, so we’ll see if the name evolves with this visual presentation," he said, noting the production time will actually be shorter than ‘Dawn Of Justice’ since all the sets for Gotham and Metropolis have already been built.
"Batman v Superman: Dawn Of Justice" opens on Friday.
